I posted a very lengthy reply to [info]cereta's call for Thanksgiving and your favorite characters, so I'm counting it for Mini Nano and posting it.

DCU, and Marvel, and Friday Night Lights, oh my!

I get that a lot of people didn't like last night's SPN. I've even read some really good posts that critiqued what they didn't like about it as an episode.

But I've also read a lot of posts about how last night's episode is indicative of patterns of failure in the treatment of women characters and etc. etc. etc. the same stuff people have hated about it for several seasons now, and... perhaps it's time you stopped watching SPN.

Seriously. Because at this point, it's self abuse.

My take is that by the end of the series, Bobby's a gonner, too. Because this is going to be a long and very bleak story about how Sam and Dean lost everything and every one to save the world. This is Beowulf, not The Odyssey.

Now, if you would like to watch arc driven stories full of strong women/people of color characters in which there are hard-won happy endings amidst the storms of life, where the cliches you hate so much are quite often turned on their heads, I cordially invite you to get then pull your head out of your ass* over the football thing and watch Friday Night Lights.

Like SPN, it's also chock full of slashy goodness, daddy issues, brotherly love, snappy dialogue, laugh until you hurt moments, pop culture references, and plenty of nail biting drama. Oh, and S3 gives us a black Impala, too.

In other words, it's got everything you keep saying you want from SPN ... that SPN is never going to deliver.

(No, FNL doesn't get everything right all the time, and S2 is all over the place, but it's got a metric fuckload less of the kind of fail that y'all hate so much about SPN.)

Clear eyes. Full hearts. Can't lose.

Well, the other project I was pecking at got mowed down by Vlad The Impala.

This draft post will be locked after the final version is posted.

I'm setting the Supernatural Convention in Colorado and it's an 8-9 hour drive from Dillon. I assume you have seen SPN 5x09 "The Real Ghostbusters".

Mild FNL S4 spoilers in this part. Bigger ones for the series in the final product.

A Kept Boy:

When Poisontaster opened the sandbox on this 'verse, I don't think anybody could have imagined the sheer variety of crazy good that would come out of it.

Khemlab has taken the premise and is exploring life in a stable of fighters kept by Lord Bale over in Controlled Violence.

Friday Night Lights:

Fleurlb adds a nifty and spot on (and funny) Tim & Landry scene to 4x02 in The Conversation. I consider this my personal canon for this episode. She's got their voices nailed.

Fleurlb returns with her take on Luke Cafferty's backstory (before we found it out) in Answered Prayers. She's scary good at guessing where things will go.

Trace93's The Bet takes place just after the end of S3 and is a tale of Tim Riggins' debut down at the Landing Strip that just keeps getting funnier and funnier.

White Collar

Dragonfly's Something Good answers the question of what Neal did while Peter spent a week on vacation.

I'm probably not going to post snippits because it's something that's been stalled, I can't say how long it will get unstalled, or even if I'm going to finish during mini-nano, and I don't want to get people's hopes up.

Plus, I've got Yuletide percolating at the back of my brain and as soon as that idea springs into place, this project gets tabled.

I've been asked more than once if I plan to continue writing in this 'verse and the answer is: Probably not.

See, I'm a Tim/Sam girl, and therein lies the issue. Writing Tim/Dean for me is like trying to turn a metric nut with an imperial socket wrench. You can make it work, but it's not a good fit.

But there is a universe in my head ... )

Title: Not Because You Should, But Because You Must
Fandoms: Sons of Anarchy/Supernatural/Friday Night Lights
Rating: Adult
Characters: Jax Teller, Dean Winchester, Tim Riggins
Pairings: Tim/OFC, Jax/Tim/Dean
Spoilers: Assumes you're current on SOA S2.

Author's Notes: For [info]ixchel55, because it's all her fault for suggesting "the Manwich Supreme".

There are several blink and you'll miss it in jokes for other stories I've written peppered throughout, but they are not necessarily indicative of continuity with those stories.

I'm setting this about 3-4 years from where we are right now, so consider my takes on some of these characters to be slightly AU. In the giant backstory in my head, one of them in particular had his life turned inside out and upside down ... and that's hinted at.

Title and cut tags are from Them Crooked Vultures.

Thanks to [info]tartysuz for her swift beta.

Legalese: Sons of Anarchy, Supernatural, and Friday Night Lights are copyright their respective owners. This is written as because I felt like making a gift for a friend, not for remuneration.

And then an edit and beta.
